In the beginning of September he left Mercury/Viatel and signed a contract with Alessio
In connection with the World Championship he was tested positive for EPO. He admitted that he had taken EPO. He awaits to be suspended for at least two year and believes that his career will end with that. He was immediately fired from the Alessio team.
In the beginning of January 2002 he was suspended for four years by teh Swedish Cycling Federation. He said that his career was over since he would be 33 years old when he would be allowed to race again.
