In February he was banned by the French Council for the Prevention and Fight against Doping from racing in France for the next three years. The reason being that he was tested positive in connection with Tour de France last year.
In the middle of July the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced that he would be suspended for one year.
He will ride for Milaneza-MSS again next year.

In December the Spanish Cycling Federation decided to suspend its investigation into Del Olmo's doping case due to doubts about the UCI's urine test. However, the UCI will take the case to the CAS.
He was tested positive for use of an unknown substance in connection with the prologue in Tour de France. Euskaltel took him out of the Tour before stage 7 to avoid a huge scandal.
He is suspended until February 2002.
He will ride for Maia-Milaneza next year.
