In the end of May, he admitted that he had been using EPO when Belgian police searched his house and found EPO. As a consequence, he resigned from the Quick Step team. He will not be admitted to ride for a ProTour team for the next four years. He said that no matter what his sanction was, he would retire as professional cyclist.
