His sport director, Michel Gros, said to the French newspaper Le Progrés, in the middle of May, that Bassons would be one of Jean Delatour's nine riders who would participate in Tour de France. Bassons became unpopular among the other riders when he during Tour de France 1999 said that the majority of the riders used doping. Several of his team mates and many of the other riders won't talk to him. Michel Gros doubts that Bassons will stay professional for very long time.
